Central Imposing New Criminal Laws to Suppress People's Voice: AILU Tripura

The All India Lawyers' Union Tripura unit staged the state-wide protest on Saturday against the three new criminal laws. The lawyers demonstrated in front of the  District and Session court of West Tripura in capital Agartala.

Three new criminal laws are going to come into effect across the country from July 1.  These are Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

All India Lawyers Union Tripura State Secretary Haribol Debnath said that the central government is going to bring three new criminal laws unilaterally. These laws are scheduled to come into effect from July 1. By this law, the innocent person should remain in jail until the accused is tried.

"Another is that the period of police custody has been extended. Most worrying is that anyone who speaks against the government can be arrested" he said.

The laws are completely anti-democratic and anti-people. Haribal Debnath expressed concern that this law will create problems for the people as a whole.

He said that the central government has unilaterally passed all these laws by expelling the MPs of the opposition parties in the parliament. Central government is trying to impose these laws on people to suppress their voice.

He urged the people of all sections to join the protest to demand the immediate withdrawal of the three new criminal laws.
