Central Team Begins Assessing The Damage Caused By Flood In Tripura

Various parts of Tripura have been inundated by severe floods. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has begun assessing the damage caused by the week-long August 19-23 floods in the state.
A six-member team of IMCT, led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary BC Joshi,
divided into two groups and started visiting the flood-affected areas of Bilonia, Sonamura, Udaipur, Dumbur, Khowai in South Tripura on Thursday.
It may be noted that according to the official statement, 32 people have died due to floods in the state, both public and private properties have been damaged, the financial loss is 15 thousand crores.
Meanwhile, considering the catastrophic situation, the state government in a statement declared the state as a natural calamity affected area.
The central team led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary BC Joshi today visited the worst-hit Bilonia sub-division under South Tripura district.
Meanwhile, another team led by Finance Ministry Deputy Director Mahesh Kumar visited Gomati district and visited Maharani Barrage area along with the affected areas on both sides of the old Subhash Bridge on Gomati river, damaged fields in Hirapur, Gandhari area of Agartala-Udaipur National Highway.
In Gomati district, the team was accompanied by Jayant Bhattacharya and B.B. Das, both Additional District Magistrates, State Disaster Management Scheme Officer Sarath Kumar Das and other district officials were present.
They also visited the affected areas in nearby Kakraban and Jatanbari, Dumbur areas of South Tripura District.
The 6-member team consists of senior officials from agriculture, expenditure (ministry of finance), and ministries of water power, rural development, and road transport and highways.
It may be noted that the central team reached Agartala on Wednesday and attended a review meeting with top officials of various departments of the state government at the secretariat.
In the meeting, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey presented an overall picture of the flood damage in the state. PWD (roads and buildings) and health secretary Kiran Gitte, water resources department secretary Abhishek Singh, and other secretaries of several departments, including agriculture and fisheries, animal resources, briefed the central committee on the damage caused by the floods over the week
