In a major thrust towards inclusive infrastructure development, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has accorded approval to 25 strategic road projects in Tripura under the road connectivity component of the Prime Minister’s JANMAN (Janajati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan).

The projects, spanning 65.38 kilometres, entail a cumulative investment of ₹68.67 crore and are aimed at providing all-weather road access to 30 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations in the state.
Top government sources indicated that the initiative is designed to break long-standing physical isolation of remote tribal settlements, many of which remain cut off for significant parts of the year due to poor or non-existent road infrastructure. Once completed, the roads are expected to dramatically improve access to healthcare facilities, educational institutions and markets, thereby addressing critical service delivery gaps in interior areas.

Officials further revealed that the enhanced connectivity is projected to act as a catalyst for rural economic activity by facilitating smoother movement of goods, boosting trade and strengthening transport networks. The construction phase itself is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, injecting much-needed liquidity into local economies.

The Centre has underscored that the Tripura projects form part of its broader development blueprint for the Northeast and align with the national vision of Viksit Bharat. According to the ministry, the PM-JANMAN road interventions are not merely infrastructure upgrades but a strategic investment in human development, aimed at uplifting PVTGs through improved socio-economic integration.
Government sources said the initiative reflects a renewed commitment to inclusive growth, with a focused push on bridging the development divide between remote tribal villages and urban growth centres. The projects are expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating the long-term development and empowerment of tribal communities in Tripura.
