Centre Is Trying To Restore Peace In The State: Manipur CM on Visit Of Army-Chief

Manipur CM N Biren Singh said about the visit of Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi that his visit shows that the central government is trying to restore peace in the state.
Let us tell you that Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi reached Manipur on a two-day visit on Friday and during this he took stock of the operational preparations. During this, he also said that the Army Chief visited Manipur at an important time.
CM Biren Singh, while answering questions from reporters at the CM Secretariat, said, the Army Chief came with three or four commanders, including the commander of the Eastern Command. We discussed many issues and their main objective was to restore peace in the state as soon as possible.
They also discussed the issues of border areas and the crisis in the neighboring country. Let us tell you that Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi also met CM N. Biren Singh during his visit.
In an army statement regarding the visit of the Army Chief, it was said that General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the security situation on the international border in Manipur. He appreciated the efforts of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles towards maintaining peace and harmony in the area.
The Chief Minister said that the central government is concerned about the crisis in Manipur and is making efforts to restore peace. Army Chief General directed some senior officers to take action after proper discussion with the Manipur government. More than 200 people have been killed and thousands have become homeless in ethnic violence between the Meitei in the Imphal Valley and the Kukis in the adjacent hills in Manipur since May last year.
CM Biren Singh also thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and all the members of the Assam Legislative Assembly for their initiative to pass a bill to allow Manipuri language as an associate official language in four districts of the state. He said that this is a long-standing demand of the Manipuris living in Assam and I express my appreciation to CM Sarma and all other members of the Assam Legislative Assembly on behalf of the state
