Civilian Killed in Gaza in Israel Operation is War Crime: UN

The Gaza  has been burning for the last 8 months in the Israel-Hamas war. Millions of lives have been destroyed in the Israel-Hamas war. After thousands of massacres, the United Nations Security Council has now taken a big step.

The US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza was passed in the United Nations Security Council. Under this proposal, the responsibility of ending the conflict with Israel in exchange for the release of hostages has been put on Hamas.

14 member countries including China voted on this proposal brought by the US. However, Russia did not participate in the voting. Despite this, the proposal was passed. Now if this proposal is implemented, then perhaps the series of deaths of innocents in Gaza can stop.

Under this, a peace proposal will be implemented in Gaza in three phases, in which Qatar and Egypt will also play a role.

This proposal of the Security Council has come amidst the arrival of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Israel. Yes, on the one hand, the plan to resolve the Gaza issue was passed in the Security Council. On the other hand, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has arrived to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. US Secretary of State Blinken met Benjamin Netanyahu and discussed issues like hostage proposal and humanitarian aid in Gaza. Let us tell you that Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas. On October 7, Hamas attacked Israel. Since then, Israel's retaliation is continuing.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council on Monday approved its first resolution aimed at ending the eight-month-long war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The US-backed ceasefire proposal was announced by President Joe Biden. The US says Israel has accepted the proposal. At the same time, all eyes are on the extremist Palestinian group Hamas, which initially said it was positively considering accepting the proposal of this three-phase plan.

Out of the 15 member countries of the Security Council, 14 supported this resolution and approved it with a majority. However, Russia was absent from the voting. This resolution calls upon Israel and Hamas to fully implement its rules without any conditions and delay. US Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield said that after the voting, the Council has given a clear message to Hamas that it will have to accept the ceasefire agreement. She reiterated that Israel has accepted this agreement, which has been supported by countries around the world. Greenfield told the Council that the war can stop today itself provided Hamas wants to do so.

Opposition leader Benny Gantz, who was part of the Israeli War Cabinet, resigned on Sunday, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of prioritizing his political interests instead of bringing back hostages and ending the war. Earlier, the Israeli army dramatically rescued four hostages from Hamas-occupied Gaza on Saturday. According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, more than 36,000 Palestinians have been killed so far in Israeli retaliatory attacks.

According to Thomas-Greenfield, the plan approved by the Security Council will begin with a six-week ceasefire, in which Israeli hostages, including women, the wounded and the elderly, will be freed and in exchange for the release of Palestinians from Israeli custody. Israel will then have to withdraw its troops from populated areas of Gaza and civilians will be allowed to return to their homes. In the second phase, there will be a 'permanent end to hostilities in exchange for the release of all other hostages in Gaza and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. The final phase will see 'the beginning of a reconstruction plan for Gaza, and the return of the remains of Israelis and others in Gaza to their families.'

Meanwhile Human Rights Office of UN said that the civilian killed in Gaza during the Israeli operation to secure the release of four hostages and their holding by armed groups in densely populated areas could amount to war crimes.

"Hundreds of Palestinians, many of them civilians, were reportedly killed and injured," said Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the UN, Human Rights Office.
