CM Alleges Loot in ADC, Urges BJP Win

Manik Saha on Sunday asserted that the state government is committed to the welfare of tribal communities and alleged that the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) is currently plagued by corruption and mismanagement.

Addressing a public rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party at Manubankul in South Tripura district, he urged voters to ensure the BJP’s victory in all 28 ADC seats to guarantee genuine development.

The Chief Minister said that for years tribal welfare remained neglected at the national level. He recalled that during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a separate department for tribal affairs was established at the Centre for the first time.

He further stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tribal development initiatives have gained unprecedented momentum.

Highlighting symbolic milestones, Dr. Saha noted that Droupadi Murmu, a tribal woman from a remote region of Odisha, now serves as the President of India. He also mentioned that a member of Tripura’s royal lineage and former Deputy Chief Minister has been appointed Governor of Telangana.

Additionally, he said a tribal leader has recently been appointed Chairman of the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), with a tribal woman inducted as one of its members.

Alleging large-scale irregularities in the ADC, Dr. Saha claimed audit reports reveal financial mismanagement and accused the current administration of indulging in a “reign of loot.”

He maintained that meaningful progress in the ADC would only be possible if the BJP secures all 28 seats, backed by public trust in the party and the Prime Minister.

On cultural recognition, the Chief Minister said that earlier only one day of holiday was granted for Gariya Puja, but his government has now extended it to two days. A restricted holiday has also been declared for Sangrangma Puja.

In the education sector, he stated that the Centre has sanctioned 21 Eklavya Model Residential Schools for tribal students in Tripura, of which 12 are already operational and six more are set to commence from March. He added that he has personally requested an additional 15 such schools from the Centre.

Referring to the long-standing issue of Reang refugees from Mizoram, Dr. Saha said that after the BJP assumed office, rehabilitation was undertaken at 12 locations across the state under a package of approximately ₹800 crore, ensuring housing, education, healthcare, drinking water, and road connectivity.

He also criticised the previous Left regime, alleging that democratic space was limited during their tenure. The Chief Minister highlighted that the Agartala Airport was renamed in honour of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur as a mark of respect to the state’s royal heritage.

The rally was attended by senior BJP leaders, including party general secretary Bipin Debbarma, district president Dipayan Chowdhury, South district president Deepak Dutta, MLA Mylaphru Mag, mandal president Bipul Bhowmik, ADC members Kangjong Mag and Sanjeev Riang, and BAC chairman Rakhi Tripura, among others.
