Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform infrastructure and connectivity across the Northeast while chairing the third meeting of the High-Level Task Force (HLTF) on Infrastructure, Logistics Cost and Connectivity in the North Eastern Region (NER).

The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and senior officials from various Central Ministries and northeastern states. Discussions centred on long-term strategies to eliminate logistics bottlenecks and strengthen economic integration across the region.

Dr. Saha proposed a phase-wise development plan focusing on enhanced multimodal transport networks, creation of cross-border trade corridors, and expansion of digital and power connectivity in the Northeast. Stressing that the region must be viewed as a single economic and infrastructure entity, he called for stronger coordination among key Central Ministries, including Road Transport and Highways, Railways, Civil Aviation, Shipping and Waterways, Power, IT, Telecom and Petroleum.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the need to expedite forest and environmental clearances, which often delay the execution of major infrastructure projects.
The HLTF meeting is part of a larger initiative launched after the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), held in Agartala in December 2024. At that session, the Centre constituted eight High-Level Task Forces, led by chief ministers of northeastern states, to address key development challenges in the region.
