The Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr Manik Saha, has expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure victory in the upcoming by-election to the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency.
Reacting to both the announcement of the BJP candidate and the recent Supreme Court of India verdict concerning the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council Village Committee elections, the Chief Minister described the ruling as a “moral victory” for the state government.
Praising BJP candidate Jahar Chakraborty, Dr. Saha remarked, “He is a gentleman with strong connections across all sections of society. The BJP will emerge victorious in the by-election.” He further asserted that the electoral contest is likely to be one-sided.
Clarifying the timeline of the ADC polls, the Chief Minister stated that although the elections will not coincide with the by-election, the state government has submitted an affidavit before the Supreme Court assuring that the TTAADC elections will be completed by June. The apex court has accepted this proposal, which, according to him, signifies a moral victory for the government.
Dr. Saha also announced that following the conclusion of the ongoing budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, he will actively participate in the campaign for both the Dharmanagar by-election and the TTAADC elections.
In view of the upcoming electoral schedule, the current budget session of the Assembly will be adjourned sine die on March 23 instead of the previously scheduled March 25.
