CM Saha Unveils Projects, Skill Mission for Brus

Laying strong emphasis on skill development, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday distributed toolkits to Bru migrants resettled in the state under the 2020 quadripartite agreement.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Chailengta Bazar playground in Dhalai district, Saha said the state government is committed to ensuring dignity and self-reliance for the Bru community through vocational training and employment-linked programmes.

“The Prime Minister said they (Brus) are our brothers and sisters. We will not do politics with you. Skill development brings self-respect and dignity,” Saha said.

The chief minister added that 11 departments have been linked under the PM JANMAN scheme, with ₹322.6 crore spent in 2024–25 for the development of vulnerable tribal groups. He announced three new 100-bedded ST hostels and seven 50-bedded hostels, along with the launch of the ‘Super 100’ scheme to help tribal youths prepare for civil service examinations.

Referring to the resettlement of 37,000 Bru families in 12 Tripura villages, Saha recalled that “earlier, many governments came and went, but no work was done. After the BJP-led government was formed, the quadripartite agreement was signed.”

During the event, Saha virtually inaugurated new infrastructure including the Chawmanu Class XII School, Chawmanu Fire Station, and new office buildings for the Rural Development Department.

Highlighting youth employment initiatives, he said five skilled youths have already been sent to Japan, with four more to follow soon, as part of overseas training efforts.

Under the Tripura Skill and Entrepreneurship Policy 2024, 35,000 candidates are currently receiving training in renewable energy, IT services, and artificial intelligence.

Saha further noted that out of the ₹27,000 crore state budget for 2024–25, ₹6,645 crore—nearly 40%—has been allocated for tribal areas, and the upcoming 2025–26 budget will devote over 40% towards developing janajati regions in health, sports, and education.

“The state cannot be developed without the development of janajati areas,” Saha asserted.
