The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on March 22 announced its decision to contest all 28 seats in the forthcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with state president Asish Kumar Saha confirming that candidates have been finalised and will be announced shortly.
Addressing party workers following a strategic meeting attended by MLA Sudip Roy Barman and other senior leaders, Saha asserted that the Congress is fully geared up for the district council polls. He noted that the Adivasi Congress has been rigorously engaged in election preparedness over the past two months, completing the candidate selection process across constituencies, pending final clearance from the central leadership.
Saha also informed that alliances with two regional parties namely TPP and Ganamancha to bolster the party’s footprint in the tribal-dominated hill regions.
“The candidates list for each constituency is nearly finalised and will be officially released following approval from the central leadership. The Congress aims to strategically align with regional allies to mount a formidable challenge against the BJP and Tipra Motha,” he stated.
Emphasising the party’s seriousness, Saha said the Congress would foreground what it describes as governance failures while presenting a comprehensive and forward-looking development agenda to the electorate.
“With the backing of regional allies, we are confident of overcoming both the BJP and Motha in the hills,” he asserted.
He further highlighted that the party is prioritising fresh faces and alliance-building initiatives to reconnect with tribal voters who have drifted away in recent years.
“Following the finalisation of candidates, our campaign will focus on development, tribal welfare, and grassroots empowerment,” he added.
The upcoming TTAADC elections are expected to witness a multi-cornered contest, with the Congress striving to reclaim lost political ground in the tribal belt.
