The controversy surrounding the opening of a night club on government property in the city has now drawn the attention of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. Sources said the Chief Minister has directed senior officials to conduct an inquiry and submit a report at the earliest.
The pub, Happiest Hour, sparked criticism from citizens soon after its launch, with many raising ethical objections to permitting a “night club and bar” in close proximity to Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, a cultural hub.
The building in question originally belonged to Rose Valley and later came under government (SDM Sadar) possession following disputes. Authorities had once decided to demolish the structure, but the High Court intervened, instructing that the building be handed over to the Urban Development department for proper use and maintenance.
However, critics point out that the High Court order did not authorize the department to lease the property to any private party, raising fresh questions over the legality of the arrangement.
