Death Of Undertrial Prisoner: Tripura CM Orders Magisterial Inquiry

Kailash Roy of Khezur Bagan under N.C.C Police Station, West Tripura detained at Bishalgarh Central Correctional Facility, died on June 29, 2025 while under trial.
It is noteworthy that Kailash Roy was arrested on June 21, 2025 in a case registered under Section 132/324(2)/351(3)/3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
After the death, an inquest was conducted in the presence of the local administration and a post-mortem was conducted on 29.06.2025 at the morgue of AGMC and GBP Hospital as per the N.H.R.C. Rules and the body was handed over to the family members on the same day.
On the instructions of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, the Home (Prisons) Department has directed the District Magistrate and Collector of Sepahijala district to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the death of Kailash Roy, and submit a report.
On the otherhand "innocent Kailash Roy was murdered in government custody" opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury alleged this after visiting the deceased's family in Goalabasti.
The opposition leader has slammed the administration over the death of Kailash Roy in the Central Correctional Home
He said that "a group of mafia is trying to grab the land of the people of the Bihari community living in Goalabasti area. They are trying to evict those common people from their homes by using the police. Court notices were sent against 11 families in Goalabasti area. Kailash Roy's family was among them. Kailash Roy's son alleged that a conspiracy is being used by the administration to grab their land. In protest against this, he tore up the court summons. The police of NCC police station came to arrest Kailash Roy's son. But since he was absconding, the police arrested Kailash Roy. Although his son surrendered, surprisingly, Kailash Roy was not released. He was sent to jail on a three-day remand. He died in the Central Correctional Facility on the morning of June 29."
The opposition leader has termed the death of Kailash Roy (65) as murder. He said, he was killed in police custody by the government. A person with a healthy body can never die like this. He was subjected to physical and mental torture in jail. That is why he died. The opposition leader has demanded immediate exemplary punishment for those responsible for this death. He has called on the public of Goalabasti area to unite and fight against it.
