Dhawan Ties Knot With Sophie Shine

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has married his Irish girlfriend Sophie Shine, marking a new chapter in his personal life. The wedding celebrations gained attention after Yuzvendra Chahal shared a video of the couple dancing to the popular Bollywood track Mauja Hi Mauja. Chahal also posted pictures of the newlyweds on stage during the festivities.

The 40-year-old former Indian opener had announced his engagement to Sophie on January 12, 2026. The couple had been in a relationship for some time and made it public in May 2025. Sharing the news of their engagement on Instagram, Dhawan wrote that they were “choosing each other forever” and expressed gratitude for the love and blessings they received.

Sophie Shine hails from Ireland and reportedly met Dhawan while working in the UAE. According to her professional profile, she previously served as Second Vice President (Product Consultant) at Northern Trust Corporation. Since July last year, she has been working as Chief Operating Officer of Dhawan’s sports venture, Da One Sports. She studied Marketing and Management at the Limerick Institute of Technology and completed her early education at Castleroy College. Sophie has frequently appeared in Dhawan’s social media videos and was earlier seen supporting Punjab Kings during the IPL.

Dhawan was previously married to Ayesha Mukherjee. The couple tied the knot in 2011 and officially divorced in October 2023 after approximately 11 years of marriage. They have a son, Zoravar. A Delhi court, while granting the divorce, observed that Dhawan had endured mental distress and prolonged separation from his son. However, the court did not grant him permanent custody, allowing only limited visitation and virtual interaction rights.

Ayesha, an Australian citizen born in India to an Indian father and a British mother, is a kickboxer who has competed at national and international levels. She was previously married to an Australian businessman and has two daughters, Alia and Riya, from that marriage.

Interestingly, Dhawan first connected with Ayesha through Facebook, with Harbhajan Singh reportedly playing a role in bringing them together. Though Dhawan’s family was initially hesitant about the relationship, they later accepted it. The couple married in 2012 in a traditional Sikh ceremony, attended by several cricketers, including Virat Kohli.

On the professional front, Dhawan made his T20I debut in 2010 and ODI debut in 2011. He broke into the Test side in 2013 and went on to represent India across all three formats. As of December 2022, he had played 167 ODIs, 68 T20Is, and 34 Tests, scoring 24 centuries and 55 half-centuries in international cricket.
