Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has applied to trademark 'Captain Cool'. If he gets the trademark rights of this word, then no person or organization will be able to use the word 'Captain Cool'.
Dhoni submitted the application online through the trademark registry portal on June 5.
He wants exclusive rights to use 'Captain Cool' for coaching and training centres.
The former Indian captain's application initially faced hurdles under Section 11(1) of the Trade Marks Act.
Because, a trademark was already registered in the name. In such a situation, people could get confused with the new trade mark.
Dhoni's lawyers argued that the name 'Captain Cool' has been associated with Dhoni for many years. It has been widely adopted by the public, media and fans.
Dhoni was given the tag of Captain Cool by his fans and media. He used to look very calm on the field during his captaincy.
No matter how difficult the situation of the match, Dhoni used to take decisions with a cool mind. This was the reason why he came to be known as Captain Cool.
