Discussion in UN Headquarters: Tripura Woman Bats For Promoting Child Care Facilities

Out of 14 lakh women sarpanches of the country, three women sarpanches from Andhra, Tripura and Rajasthan presents their views on the role of women in the governance of India at the UN Headquarters on Saturday i. e May 4.

The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations is organized the program in collaboration with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Supriya Das Dutta, Chairperson of Tripura's Sepahijala District Council, increased 600 self-help groups in remote areas by ten times and added 60 thousand women to them. 

She is taking care of the ever growing family of sisters by doing flower making, fish farming, animal husbandry and poultry work and is constantly trying to take it further. 

Neeru Yadav, Sarpanch of Lambi Ahir Gram Panchayat of Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, played an important role in promoting women empowerment. After becoming Sarpanch, she first started efforts to encourage girls for sports, his hard work bore fruit and today the girls of the village are busy shaping their future in hockey. Apart from this, the 'Mera Ped Mera Dost' campaign regarding environment became so popular that school children planted more than 17 thousand trees not only in schools but also around the village. 

Kunuku Hema Kumari M.Tech. is the Sarpanch of Pekeru Gram Panchayat of Andhra Pradesh. She had dreamed of a wonderful job, but as soon as she became Sarpanch, she used his entire technical knowledge in the development of the village and in taking the benefits of government schemes to the people.

Especially to ensure delivery of health services to the last person, effective management was not only prepared but also implemented. She still teaches in an engineering college and is continuously working to make people's lives easier.

Recognizing the importance of enabling women's work participation, representative from Tripura Supriya Das Datta gives importance in promoting child care facilities  to create a conducive work environment.

Datta strongly bats that gender equality can be achieved by tackling deep-rooted social norms. Dutta also emphasized to ensure that women are no less than men.
