Divyang Weaver From Tripura Nirmala Sinha Wins National Handloom Award 2024

Nirmala Sinha, a prominent weaver from Dhalai district of Tripura, has been awarded the National Handloom Award 2023 for her outstanding achievements in handloom and handicrafts by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

52-year-old Sinha, who has a disability, spent over three decades mastering the art of handloom weaving. 

Her work predominantly features intricate patterns and designs native to the Manipuri community, a tradition she is passionate about preserving. 

This recognition not only highlights her individual talent but also brings attention to the rich cultural heritage of handloom weaving in Tripura and the northeastern region of India.

She expressed gratitude for the honor, dedicating the award to her community and fellow weavers who continue to work in challenging conditions. 

Sinha emphasized the importance of supporting traditional crafts and the artisans behind them, calling for greater recognition and financial assistance from both the government and private sectors.
