Dr Bibhash Kanti Kilikdar Appointed As Lokayukta of Tripura

Retired Judge of Tripura Judicial Service Dr Bibhas Kanti Kilikdar has been appointed as the new Lokayukta of Tripura. 

A formal order of his appointment is issued. He replaces senior advocate KN Bhattacharya. Bhattacharya was serving as Lokayukta of Tripura from July 1, 2019.

Dr. Bibhas Kanti Kilikdar, was earlier a former member of the Tripura Public Service Commission and currently holds advisory positions in several departments of the Government of Tripura, including being a member of the NASA Board. 

Dr. Kilikdar is the chief architect of the codification of Tripura's own various laws by the Government of Tripura who has successfully authored two voluminous books bringing together all the laws of Tripura from 1950 to 2002.

Prior to this he was associated with the legal profession for several years, enrolled as an advocate under the Bar Councils of Tripura, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Besides, the life member of the Indian Red Cross Society. 

Kilikdar served for several years as the Vice President  of the Indian Red Cross Society, Tripura branch. 

He has also served as Chairman and Member of several Subcommittees of Government of Tripura.

Dr. Kilikdar is currently a member of  Social Welfare and Social Education Advisory Board, Tripura Bio-Diversity Board, Chairman- Ethics Committee (Multi-disciplinary Advisory Body), ILS Hospital, Tripura Law Training Institute and Research Center and Grievance Redressal Committee at Tripura Central University. 

He has written several books on Tripura, especially on Reangs of Tripura, his practice and dissertation on Customary Law was published by the Government of Tripura in 1998.

Moreover, he is a renowned legal expert in administrative disciplinary matters and departmental proceedings. His book on the subject has been published by the State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD). 

The news of the appointment of a person who knows the law and is skilled in administrative work as the Lokayukta of Tripura has created quite a stir in the administrative circles in the sense that this time some effective steps may be taken to stop corruption in the government. 

Because the Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha himself has been talking about zero tolerance on the issue of administrative corruption for a long time now
