EC Extends SIR Deadline; Final Rolls on Feb 14, 2026

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and union territories by seven days, issuing a fresh schedule that supersedes its previous order. All activities under the SIR—including enumeration, booth reorganization, publication of draft rolls, and the claim-objection process—will now be conducted according to the revised timelines.

This extension applies to regions where the SIR process was already underway: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The Commission stated that the additional time was essential to ensure the voter lists are more accurate, updated, and systematically verified.

Earlier, the SIR was scheduled to conclude on December 4, leaving only a few days for completion. With the seven-day extension, the new deadline now stands at December 11.

The period for filing claims and objections—such as applications for addition of eligible voters or removal of ineligible entries—will now run from December 16 to January 15. Appeals regarding rejected applications may be filed with the District Electoral Registration Officer or, subsequently, before the Chief Electoral Officer of the respective state from December 16 to February 7.

The final electoral rolls will be published on February 14, 2026, replacing the earlier date of February 10.
