ECI Delegation Arrives to Assess Dharmanagar By-Poll

A high-level delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI), headed by Principal Secretary N. T. Bhutia, arrived in Tripura on Wednesday to undertake a comprehensive review of the preparedness for the forthcoming by-election in the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency.

The visit forms part of the Commission’s established protocol aimed at ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

During their stay, the delegation will carry out an extensive assessment of the entire election management framework, including polling station infrastructure, security arrangements, and the deployment of election personnel. Officials are also scheduled to evaluate the logistical readiness of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units, while reviewing voter awareness and outreach initiatives designed to encourage greater electoral participation.

The Chief Electoral Officer of the state noted that such high-level inspections are instrumental in identifying potential operational challenges in advance and ensuring that the administrative machinery remains fully prepared to conduct the by-poll efficiently and without disruption.

Given its strategic importance in the state’s political landscape, the Dharmanagar constituency is expected to receive particular attention to guarantee a smooth and orderly polling process.

The by-election has been necessitated following the demise of Biswabandhu Sen, who served both as the MLA from Dharmanagar and as the Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, leaving the seat vacant.
