ED Summons Former Indian Captain Azhar

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday. Azhar is accused of corruption during his tenure as the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). However, Azhar has completely denied the allegations.
ED has called Azhar for questioning today. ED team is investigating the irregularities in HCA. ED has sent summons to Azhar on the basis of a case already registered at Uppal police station.
The 61-year-old former cricketer has also been accused of match fixing earlier. Due to this, BCCI had also banned him. However, later the Andhra Pradesh High Court acquitted Azhar.
According to ED, Hyderabad Cricket Association officials committed financial irregularities in the construction of Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium. They gave contracts to private companies at higher rates and caused losses worth crores of rupees to the association. 3 FIRs have been registered in this case and investigation is underway.
Cricketer-turned-politician Azharuddin was appointed the president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee in 2018. In 2009, he was an MP from Moradabad in UP on a Congress ticket.
Before sending the summons, the investigating agency has also conducted raids at 9 places in Telangana. During this, many important documents along with digital equipment have been recovered.
HCA CEO Sunil Kant Bose has filed a corruption complaint against former Team India captain Azharuddin.
Azhar, who entered politics in 2009, has been a Lok Sabha MP on a Congress ticket. He contested the election from Moradabad seat in Uttar Pradesh. Azhar entered politics in 2009. He was an MP from 2009 to 2014.
Mohammad Azhar, who has played 99 Test matches for India, has represented the Indian team in 99 Test matches. He was about to play his 100th Test when he was accused of match fixing. Then in 2000, after investigation, BCCI banned Azhar for life time, however, in 2012, the ban was lifted by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
