Eight Arrested in Delhi ISI-Linked Terror Plot

Eight individuals, including a Bangladeshi national, have been arrested in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy targeting New Delhi, with investigators pointing to links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and Bangladesh-based extremist groups.

According to the Delhi Police, six suspects — Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid, and Mohammad Ujjal — were apprehended in Tamil Nadu and subsequently brought to Delhi for interrogation. Multiple mobile phones and SIM cards were seized during the operation.

Two additional arrests were made in West Bengal, bringing the total to eight. Officials said the accused are suspected of conducting reconnaissance in several cities and providing logistical assistance to terrorist operatives.

Arrests Across Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, two suspects were detained from Uthukuli, three from Palladam, and one from Thirumuruganpoondi. Police sources indicated that the accused were employed in the garment sector and had allegedly concealed their identities using forged Aadhaar cards.

The crackdown followed specific intelligence inputs suggesting that the group was planning disruptive activities across different parts of the country, sources told Press Trust of India.

Seizures and Alleged Foreign Links

During coordinated searches, investigators recovered dozens of mobile phones and SIM cards, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis to determine the extent of the network and any potential foreign connections.

Preliminary findings indicate that the group was in contact with handlers allegedly linked to Pakistan’s ISI and certain Bangladesh-based outfits. Central agencies are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Police further alleged that four of the accused had travelled to Delhi, where they reportedly put up “Free Kashmir” and other objectionable posters at a metro station during the AI Summit before returning to Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Officials told Asian News International that the accused coordinated through social media platforms.

Delhi on High Alert

The developments come amid heightened security in the national capital. On Saturday, Delhi was placed on high alert following intelligence inputs about possible terror threats from the Pakistan-based banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Sources said the group may be attempting to avenge a February 6 suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Islamabad that claimed at least 31 lives. Pakistan has alleged foreign involvement in that attack, a charge India has categorically denied.

In an official statement earlier this month, the Indian government rejected the allegations, asserting that Pakistan should address its internal challenges rather than attributing domestic incidents to external actors.
