The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced England’s Test, ODI, and T20I squads for the upcoming international season, with Ben Stokes set to lead the Ashes campaign in Australia later this year.
England will play five Tests in Australia from November 21 to January 8, 2026, with Harry Brook appointed as the new vice-captain. Brook replaces Ollie Pope, who held the role during the recent India series but has been stripped of his position. Pope, however, retains his place in the 16-member squad.
The selectors have named a strong pace battery, with Jofra Archer returning fully fit to spearhead the attack. He will be supported by Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, Matthew Potts, Josh Tongue, Mark Wood, and captain Stokes himself. Chris Woakes misses out due to fitness concerns. Two spinners, Shoaib Bashir and Will Jacks, have been included to provide variety.
Young batsman Jacob Bethell, who made his Test debut against India in August, has also been named in the squad and is seen as a potential option for the No. 3 role, ahead of Pope.
Before the Ashes, England will tour New Zealand between October 18 and November 19, playing three ODIs and three T20Is. Harry Brook has been entrusted with the white-ball captaincy for both formats, further underlining his rapid rise as a leader.
The ODI squad features senior names such as Joe Root, Jos Buttler, and Jofra Archer, while the T20I squad blends youth and experience with Rehan Ahmed, Zak Crawley, and Sam Curran among those included.
