The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board has rescheduled the environmental public hearing for the 1,650 MW Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project. Earlier slated for October 30, the hearing will now be held on October 28 at the Government Secondary School, Menga, officials said on Saturday.
Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo issued a circular on Friday urging residents from Siyum, Taliha, Payeng, Jaring, Daporijo, Gusar, and Dumporijo circles—areas likely to be affected by the project—to attend the meeting.
The Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project, to be implemented jointly by the state government and NHPC Ltd, aims to generate 1,650 MW of power over the Subansiri River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra.
The project, formerly known as Oju-I and Oju-II, has long been met with resistance from student groups and local communities over environmental and displacement concerns.
