Explosion in Telangana Chemical Factory: 12 Workers Killed

An explosion occurred in the reactor unit of a pharmaceutical factory in Sangareddy district of Telangana on Monday morning. 12 workers died in the incident, 34 people were injured. The accident took place between 8:15 am and 9.30 am at Sigachi Industries located in Pasumillaram Industrial Area.
State Labor Minister G Vivek Venkatswamy said - 4 bodies have been recovered so far. We hope that there will be no more deaths. IG V Satyanarayana said that there were 150 people in the factory at the time of the incident, 90 people were present where the blast occurred.
He said that along with the teams of NDRF, DRF, SDRF, 10 fire brigade vehicles are present. The reasons of the blast are being investigated. The possibility of blast has been expressed due to rapid chemical reaction in the reactor.
Here, PM Modi expressed grief over the blast incident through X post. He announced a help of ₹ 2 lakh to the family of the deceased and ₹ 50 thousand to the injured from PM National Relief Fund.
The workers fell several meters away from the explosion
A laborer said that I came out after completing the night shift at 7 am. The staff of the morning shift had already come inside. The explosion happened around 8 am. Mobiles accumulate during the shift, due to this, no news could be obtained about the people working inside.
A female relative of a labourer said that four members of her family work in the factory. These include her son, son-in-law, elder brother-in-law and brother-in-law. Three of them were in the morning shift.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was so powerful that the workers working there fell about 100 meters away. The reactor unit has been destroyed due to the explosion.
An employee of the company said that most of the workers are from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal. More than 60 workers and 40 other staff work in one shift.
The company's products are exported to 65 countries Sigachi Industries manufactures pharmaceutical powders. It has been manufacturing microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) since 1989. It is a white colored powder. It has no odor or taste.
MCC is used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Sigachi Industries has five factories across the country, including Hyderabad. The company's products are exported to more than 65 countries.
After the blast in the factory, the shares of Sigachi Industries fell by 9.89% on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Till then it was trading at Rs 49.72 per share.
