Tripura’s spiritual and cultural heartbeat, the historic Tripura Sundari Temple at Matabari, is set to enter a new chapter as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the state on Monday.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the redeveloped temple complex under the PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme, blending centuries-old devotion with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
For devotees, the day marks a sacred confluence — the beginning of Navratri coinciding with the Prime Minister’s visit. The atmosphere around Matabari is already charged with anticipation, with preparations reaching their final stage.

PM’s Itinerary:
The Prime Minister will arrive in Agartala at 3 PM on Monday by a special aircraft.
He will then travel by helicopter to the OTPC helipad at Palatana.
From there, Modi will proceed by road — crossing Jamjuri, Ramesh Chowmuhani, and Brahmabari — before reaching Matabari.
At the temple, PM Modi will not only offer prayers but also inaugurate key infrastructure facilities, including improved roads, upgraded security, rest houses, exhibition spaces, and symbolic project stalls.
Security has been heightened with the arrival of the Special Protection Group (SPG), while local authorities are on high alert to ensure smooth proceedings.

The Tripura Sundari Temple is among the most revered Shakti Peethas in India, drawing lakhs of pilgrims during the annual Diwali fair. With the new facilities, the temple is expected to transform into a hub of religious tourism, opening new economic avenues for local communities.
Beyond faith, the visit also carries a political and developmental message. By showcasing the Centre-State collaboration on religious tourism and infrastructure development, PM Modi’s trip highlights the BJP government’s broader vision for growth in the Northeast.
Local businesses — from hotels and restaurants to transport operators and small vendors — are expected to benefit significantly from the tourism boost. For many families in and around Matabari who rely on temporary stalls during festivals, this development offers new livelihood opportunities.

As Matabari glows in a new avatar, Monday’s inauguration is not just about the restoration of a shrine — it is about preserving tradition while unlocking Tripura’s future potential.
