Flood Situation in Assam Worsening. Karimganj Most Affected

The flood situation in Assam is continuously worsening. The situation worsened on Thursday in which one more person died. An official bulletin said that more than four lakh people in 19 districts of the state are affected by the floods. 

According to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person died due to drowning in Khairabari area of ​​Udalguri district.

With this, the total number of people who lost their lives in floods, landslides and storms this year has increased to 36. According to the bulletin, more than 4,09,300 people have been affected by the floods in Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Vishwanath, Cachar, Darang, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur and Udalguri districts.

Karimganj is the worst hit, with over 2.5 lakh people affected, followed by Darang (53,500) and Tamulpur (23,000). As of Wednesday, nearly three lakh people were affected by floods in 17 districts of the state. "The flood situation is a bit alarming now as many tributaries of the Brahmaputra are flowing above the danger mark. The good thing is that the Brahmaputra has not yet crossed the danger mark," Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters in Tezpur. 

If the rain stops, the situation will come under control. If the rain continues like this, the flood situation will become serious. Sarma said, "The flood has not spread over a large area, but wherever it has come, people are facing huge difficulties. We are handling it for the time being. The central government is constantly taking information about the situation, but we have not asked for any assistance yet. We have adequate funds." The administration is running 105 relief camps in one district, where 14,215 people have taken shelter, and 78 relief distribution centers in one district.

The state government is continuously helping the affected people

The authority has distributed 2,010.35 quintals of rice, 354.59 quintals of pulses, 134.36 quintals of salt and 10,750.2 litres of mustard oil among the flood-affected people in the last 24 hours. Currently, 1,311 villages are submerged and 6,424.83 hectares of crop area has been damaged across Assam, the ASDMA said.

Floodwaters have damaged embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure in Bajali, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Darang, Goalpara, Hojai, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur, Udalguri, Biswanath, West Karbi Anglong and Karimganj. The ASDMA said that currently Kopili in Kampur, Katakhal in Matijuri, Barak in Badarpur Ghat and Kushiyara in Karimganj town are flowing above the danger mark.
