Four Killed as Brick Kiln Chimney Collapses in Tripura

Four workers were killed and four others injured after the chimney of a brick kiln collapsed in Tripura’s Dhalai district on Wednesday, police said.

Three labourers died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The injured are currently undergoing treatment, Officer-in-Charge of Kamalpur police station Suman Acharya said.

The massive chimney collapsed on workers at a brick kiln in the Kamalpur area, causing the fatalities. Preliminary reports suggest there was no prior indication that the structure was at risk of collapse.

Following the incident, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. As a precautionary measure, the area has been cordoned off, Acharya added.

An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the collapse. Authorities said the probe will examine whether safety norms were adhered to and assess the structural condition of the brick kiln chimney.

Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed grief over the loss of lives. In a condolence message, he said the state government stands with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured and directed officials to ensure proper medical care.
