French Open: Spain's Carlos Alcaraz Become Champion

Spain's 22-year-old tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has become the French Open champion. Alcaraz defeated Italy's Jannik Sinner in five sets in a 5-hour-long title match at Roland Garros Stadium. Alcaraz won the match 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. He defended his title here. With this, Alcaraz has made his record 5-0 in Grand Slam. That is, this was his fifth Grand Slam final and he became the winner for the fifth time.
The winner got a prize money of Rs 25 crore while the runner up got Rs 13 crore. This is the 6th time in the Open Era that someone has become a champion after losing the first two sets in the final.
This time both the titles of the singles category of French Open went to number-2 players. Earlier, on Saturday, world number-2 Coco Gauff became the champion by defeating number-1 Aryna Sabalenka. Now on Sunday, number-2 Alcaraz did the same by defeating number-1 Sinner.
For only the third time in the Open Era, the men's singles Grand Slam final was decided by a fifth set tie-break. Earlier, the final between Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev at the 2020 US Open came to a tie-break, in which Thiem emerged victorious. Before that, at Wimbledon 2019, Djokovic won the title by defeating Federer in a fifth set tiebreaker.
This was the first time in a Grand Slam when players born after 2000 faced each other in the final. Also, this was the first time since 2013 when the title match was played between the top-2 players in the world rankings. The longest French Open final in the Open Era The final match of Alcaraz-Sinner was the longest final of the Open Era in the French Open. This match lasted for 5 hours 29 minutes. It broke the record of the final of Guillermo Vilas (Argentina) and Mats Wilander (Sweden) on 6 June 1982. Wilander won that match which lasted for 4 hours 42 minutes by 1-6, 7-6, 6-0, 6-4. Sinner lost his fifth consecutive match to Alcaraz This was Alcaraz's fifth consecutive win against Sinner. He had also defeated Sinner in the final of Rome Masters last month. So far 12 matches have been played between the two, out of which Alcaraz has won 8.
