Gautam Gambhir Become The Head Coach of The Indian Cricket Team

Former Indian team opener Gautam Gambhir has got a new responsibility. He has become the head coach of the Indian Cricket team. He has replaced Rahul Dravid. 

The announcement of appointing Gambhir as the new head coach has been made by the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah.

Let us tell you that the tenure of Indian team's head coach Rahul Dravid has ended after the T20 World Cup 2024. Dravid took over as the head coach after the T20 World Cup 2021. Although his tenure was only till the ODI World Cup 2023, but BCCI had extended it. 

The 42-year-old Gambhir will take charge from the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, where Team India is scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20 Internationals starting from July 27, 2024.

Along with the news of Dravid's tenure ending, there were already reports of Gautam Gambhir becoming the head coach. Now Jai Shah has confirmed this. 

Currently, the Indian team is on a Zimbabwe tour under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. After this, it will go on a tour of Sri Lanka. Where Gambhir will take over his command.

Gambhir became the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) even before IPL 2024. After this, he also made the KKR team a champion under his mentorship. 

Gambhir was the only candidate to apply for the post of head coach. He had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the interview for the post of coach.

Gautam Gambhir retired from international cricket on 4 December 2018. Gambhir played his last Test for India against England in Rajkot in 2016. Gambhir scored 4154 runs in 58 Test matches at an average of 41.95, which includes nine centuries.

Gambhir scored 5238 runs in 147 ODIs at an average of 39.68. This includes a memorable innings of 97 runs in the 2011 World Cup final, due to which India won the World Cup for the second time. He played 11 century innings in ODIs. 

Gambhir also left his mark in T20 International matches. He scored 932 runs with the help of seven half-centuries in 37 matches, in which his average was 27.41.
