GBP Hospital Successfully Completes Its First Kidney Transplant

For  first time ever kidney transplant in Tripura took place on Monday. It is a historic day of the 65-year-old GBP Hospital. Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. Shankar Chakraborty presented detailed information in a press conference after the successful kidney transplant . 

Tripura is the third state in North Eastern region to have success in kidney transplant. Speaking in detail, he said, today the mother's kidney has been transplanted into the son. Shubham Sutradhar (20), son of Munna Saha Sutradhar, a resident of Ramnagar, Agartala was suffering from kidney problems. Today the kidney transplant was successfully completed. 

He said that for the past one year, a committee has been formed with various expert doctors of the hospital about the kidney transplant program and various necessary steps are being taken regarding this kidney transplant. This decision was first taken on 21st August 2023. The first committee was formed on August 23. The chairman of the committee was Prof. Dr. Sanjib Debbarma. Expert doctors of that committee prepared a protocol and handed it over to the committee on 4 January 2024. The protocol on the next issue was sent to Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha. The Chief Minister gave the approval on 18th January. 

Medical Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty also mentioned that this type of operation has to be done under the supervision of any hospital. Accordingly MoU was signed with SHIJA Hospital. He said that this success has come gradually after long efforts.

He also said that the mother and son whose kidney was transplanted today came to the chief minister's Samipeshu function and appealed to the chief minister for help. 

Accordingly, the Chief Minister of the state informed the medical board to take action in this regard. Later, all the preparations for this kidney transplant were finalized by talking to various expert doctors and members of SHIJA Foundation in the committee. 

All kinds of tests are done quickly. Some exams are not conducted in Tripura, they are also conducted from outside the state, he said. And then today is fixed for kidney transplant.

He also said that this patient had an Ayushman card. As a result, the state government provided all the expenses of this kidney transplant. Besides, Tripura government has borne all the expenses of the SHIJA Foundation team brought from Manipur. However, SHIJA Hospital doctors did not demand any kind of fee.

On behalf of SHIJA Hospital, the team leader Nephrologist Dr. Duliverd, Dr. Samarendra, Dr. Kennedy, Dr. Maharam Mehele, Dr. Dinesh, Dr. Rupu, Nursing Officer Remapukam, Prem Kumar Singh, Sagram Refasp, Technician Inobici and Naresh were on present there.

Meanwhile, the state team for the transplant consisted of Urologist Dr. Bijit Lodh, Neurologist Dr. Mukut Debnath, Nephrologist Dr. Manash Gope, Nephrologist Dr. Samaresh Pal, Anesthesiologist Dr. Tapan Debbarma , Dr. Bhaskar Majumder, Dr. Anupam Chakraborty, Nursing Officer Diptanudhar Sutra, Ishan Deb, Sumita Singh, Prasenjit Mahajan, Navjit Tripura. Nursing Officer Himadri Kar, Tapati Chakraborty was also in full supervisor charge.

In the press conference of this day, it was informed that special initiatives will be taken in the field of not only kidney transplant, but also liver transplant. For the first successful kidney transplant, other patients in the state will also come forward for kidney transplants in the state. The expert doctors present expressed hope that this initiative will take the medical services of the state to a new height
