Indonesian fast bowler Ged Priyandana etched his name into cricket history by becoming the first bowler in the world—across both men’s and women’s cricket—to take five wickets in a single over in international cricket. The historic feat came during Indonesia’s T20 International match against Cambodia at the Udayana Cricket Stadium in Bali on Tuesday.
Defending a total of 167, the 28-year-old right-arm pacer was introduced into the attack for the 16th over. What followed was an extraordinary spell that stunned Cambodia’s batting line-up. Priyandana struck with the first three deliveries of the over, completing a hat-trick by dismissing Shah Abrar Hussain, Nirmaljit Singh, and Chanthoun Rathanak.
The fourth delivery was a dot ball, before Priyandana claimed his fourth wicket by dismissing Mongdara Sok. After bowling a wide, he removed Pel Wennak on the final ball of the over to complete an unprecedented five-wicket haul in a single over and seal the match. Cambodia managed just one run in the over—the wide—and were eventually bowled out to lose the match by 60 runs.
This performance also marked the first time in T20 International history that a bowler has taken four wickets in five balls of an over. Previously, Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga had taken four wickets in four consecutive deliveries against New Zealand in 2019, a feat long considered unmatched at the international level.
While five wickets in an over had occurred twice before in men’s domestic T20 cricket—Al-Amin Hossain for UCB-BCB XI in the 2013–14 Victory Day T20 Cup, and Abhimanyu Mithun for Karnataka against Haryana in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy—Priyandana’s achievement is the first such instance in international cricket.
Earlier in the match, Priyandana also contributed with the bat, opening the innings alongside Dharma Kesuma and scoring six runs off 11 balls. However, it was his astonishing bowling spell that defined the contest and secured a historic victory for Indonesia.
To date, there have been 14 recorded instances of bowlers taking four wickets in an over in international cricket, but Ged Priyandana now stands alone at the top with a record-breaking five.
