Gondacherra: Clash Over Death of Non-tribal Youth. Police Fires Blank, Water Cannon. 144 Imposed

Tension erupted in Gandacherra under Dhalai District of Tripira area  over the death of a tribal youth. The youth identified as Parameshwar Reang (21) was attacked while trying to save a vagabond  youth. The incident took place on July 9 during the Anand Mela (fair) at the cricket stadium premises in Trish Card area of ​​Gandacherra sub-division. 

25 to 30 youths were beating up a vagrant boy. In the meantime Parameshwar Reang tried to save that vagabond boy. But the youths beat Parameshwar also severely. He was seriously injured. 

Later, he was brought to GBP hospital in Agartala for treatment. But he died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment.

In the afternoon, tension spread when his dead body reached at his home. Agitated tribals started attacking and vandalizing Bengali community residential of the area in the evening. Several policemen and BSF jawans were also injured in the incident when glass, bottles, bricks were pelted. Section 144 has been imposed . 

A large police force has been deployed to control the situation. According to the latest news the situation has been heated once again at Friday night. Police reportedly fired blanks, water canon to control the situation. The non tribal families are in fear due to this incident. Meanwhile Tipra Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman appeals  through an audio message to keep peace.
