Government Extends AFSPA In Parts of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh

In view of the current situation, the central government has extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in some parts of two northeastern states, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. 

The areas in which the government has extended AFSPA include 8 districts of Nagaland and 3 districts of Arunachal Pradesh. 

Apart from this, some other areas are also included. AFSPA has been extended for another 6 months.

Implemented in 21 police stations
The Union Home Ministry issued a notification saying that the central government has declared 8 districts of Nagaland and 21 police stations of 5 other districts as 'disturbed areas' for six months from April 1, 2024. 

The Home Ministry said that the law and order situation in Nagaland has been further reviewed.

The districts of Nagaland where AFSPA has been re-imposed are Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek and Peren. 

The areas of Nagaland falling under the jurisdiction of Khuzama, Kohima North, Kohima South, Zubza and Kezocha police stations of Kohima district. At the same time, Mangkolemba, Mokokchung-I, Longtho, Tuli, Longchem and Anaki 'C' police stations of Mokokchung district have also been declared disturbed.

In fact, it is notified under AFSPA to facilitate the activities of the armed forces in a disturbed area. 

AFSPA gives the armed forces working in disturbed areas the right to search, arrest and open fire if needed
