The incumbent government is committed to being journalist-friendly. Speaking out against journalists from positions of authority, using abusive language, and spreading falsehoods is not part of our culture and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We are prepared to take necessary steps in the future to uphold these principles. Our objective is to respect everyone, move forward collectively, and build a new Tripura.
Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha made these remarks while addressing a public meeting organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Demdum, Fatikrai, in Unkoti district, where he spoke about the importance of safeguarding the fourth pillar of democracy.
Dr. Saha stated that the state government is working to ensure transparent and accountable governance for all. As part of this initiative, good governance outreach programmes have been conducted in two phases across households statewide. He further noted that substantial financial allocations, amounting to several crores, have been provided to the ADC for tribal development. However, he alleged that the funds have not been properly accounted for, claiming that those in charge lack a clear developmental vision and remain detached from grassroots concerns. He also asserted that the state government is fully prepared for the upcoming village elections.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the government is making sustained efforts to promote the Kokborok language along with other minority languages. He reiterated that the administration is committed to transparency and inclusive socio-economic development, aiming to create a new Tripura with the participation of people from every region of the state.
Welcoming new members into the party, Dr. Saha expressed satisfaction at the significant presence of tribal communities at the gathering. He described their participation as a reflection of trust in the Bharatiya Janata Party and in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that under the Prime Minister’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” the government is striving for inclusive growth.
Dr. Saha criticised divisive politics based on ethnic and communal sentiments, stating that such tactics only mislead the public. Referring to ongoing debates around Tipraland and Greater Tipraland, he alleged that certain political forces are exploiting the sentiments of tribal communities for narrow political gains. He maintained that the Prime Minister remains vigilant and committed to advancing the nation’s welfare, noting that significant allocations have been made in the recent budget for tribal development.
The Chief Minister further announced that the honorary allowance for tribal leaders has been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000. Additionally, TCS-equivalent officers have been appointed at district and sub-divisional levels to ensure effective implementation of central and state welfare schemes aimed at tribal upliftment.
Questioning alleged financial irregularities within the ADC, Dr. Saha raised concerns about foreign trips undertaken by certain leaders, asking how such expenditures were being financed. He alleged instances of financial mismanagement and political intimidation.
The meeting was attended by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Scheduled Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, MLA Swapna Das Pal, BJP Provincial General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, Unkoti District President Amlendu Das, Dhalai District President Pratiram Tripura, and other district and mandal-level leaders. Notably, 215 voters from 57 families formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party during the event and were welcomed by the Chief Minister and senior party leaders.
