The opening day of the Guwahati Test between India and South Africa ended 8.1 overs early due to poor light, with the visiting side finishing at 247 for 6 at the Barsapara Stadium on Saturday. Winning the toss and opting to bat, South Africa made a confident start before India hit back strongly in the final session.
Match Progress
South Africa began solidly, going 25 overs without losing a wicket in the first session. Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram appeared set before Jasprit Bumrah broke the stand in the 27th over, dismissing Markram for 38 and ending the opening session at a strong position.
Only one wicket fell in the second session as Rickelton departed for 35, caught off Kuldeep Yadav. Tristan Stubbs (49) and captain Temba Bavuma (41) then consolidated, taking South Africa to 156 for 2 by tea.
However, the final session saw a sharp Indian comeback. The Proteas lost four wickets, including Bavuma, Stubbs, Tony de Giorgi (28) and Wiaan Mulder (13), sliding to 247 for 6 before bad light forced early stumps.
Key Performers
For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout, taking 3 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj claimed a wicket each. Siraj still has one ball left in his 18th over.
