Haryana Election: Vinesh Phogat Gets Ticket Immediately After Joining Congress

Congress on Friday released its first list of 31 candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. The party has fielded Olympian Vinesh Phogat from Julana assembly constituency. Apart from this, the party has fielded former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi seat, while sitting MLA Mamman Khan has been given ticket from Ferozepur Jhirka assembly constituency and state unit chief Udaybhan from Hodal.

Not only this, the party has fielded Meva Singh from Ladwa against the Chief Minister and BJP candidate Naib Singh Saini. Naib Singh Saini has once again changed his seat, due to which the election from Ladwa is considered very difficult for him.

The special thing is that Olympian Phogat and Bajrang Punia, who were at the forefront of wrestlers' protest against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh last year. One of them, Bajrang Punia, was made the working president of the Kisan Congress when he joined the Congress today. At the same time, Vinesh Phogat was given a ticket for the assembly elections from Julana.

Both Vinesh and Bajrang are known as big names in the world of wrestling and their joining the Congress is considered important for the party's mass base, as both have been openly criticizing the BJP. Both of them also supported the farmers' movement in Punjab-Haryana in the last few years. Due to this, both of them are considered popular among a large section of Haryana.

Let us tell you that a meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of Congress was held to decide the names of candidates for the Haryana elections. Many leaders including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi, party general secretary in-charge organization KC Venugopal, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Haryana in-charge Deepak Babaria and former Chief Minister of the state Bhupendra Singh Hooda attended the meeting.

The Congress is in talks with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over seat-sharing for the elections, with both sides engaging in a tough bargain. However, the talks are likely to fail. AAP sources told The Indian Express on Friday that the party's Bhupinder Singh Hooda and some other leaders have strongly opposed the proposal.

However, it is also believed that the party high command wants an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party, due to which talks are going on with AAP leaders but the state unit of the party and especially Bhupinder Singh Hooda's faction are not in favour of this, due to which there is a problem in the alliance between Congress and AAP
