Hate video Row: Owaisi Moves Police Against Assam CM

AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday, February 9, filed a complaint with the Hyderabad Police Commissioner against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over an allegedly hate-driven video shared by the BJP Assam IT wing.
The video showed the Assam Chief Minister aiming a gun at AI-generated visuals of skullcap-wearing Muslims and carried captions such as “Point blank shot” and “No Mercy.” Although the video was taken down following widespread outrage, Owaisi said it continues to circulate on social media platforms.
In his complaint, Owaisi alleged that the video was a “deliberate and malicious act” intended to outrage the religious feelings of Muslims, promote hatred between religious communities, and incite communal violence.
He stated that the content was accessible across India, including within the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad police, and sought immediate legal action against the Assam Chief Minister.
Owaisi cited the Supreme Court judgment in Shaheen Abdulla v. Union of India & Ors., which held that it is the constitutional duty of the State and law enforcement agencies to protect fundamental rights and preserve the secular and democratic character of the nation. He noted that the court had directed police to take suo motu action in cases of hate speech, even without a formal complaint.
The AIMIM chief further alleged that Himanta Biswa Sarma has been consistently targeting the Muslim community through social media posts, public speeches, and other platforms, with the intent to promote enmity between Hindus and Muslims and damage communal harmony.
