Healthcare Reforms: CM Reviews AIIMS MoU

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday reviewed the Action Taken Report (ATR) on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between AIIMS, New Delhi and the Government of Tripura, aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare services in the state.
The review meeting was held through a video conference with AIIMS Director Dr. M. Srinivas and other senior officials. The ATR, prepared and presented on January 28, 2026, assessed the progress made since the MoU was signed on October 17, 2025, between AIIMS, New Delhi and the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura.
According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, several key administrative reforms are currently underway or partially implemented under the MoU.

These include the formation of a consolidated workforce, enhancement of financial powers, development of IT-enabled governance systems, and preliminary steps towards the establishment of a Health University in Tripura. Recruitment of manpower is being conducted as per existing government rules through the Health Department and the Tripura Public Service Commission.

In coordination with AIIMS, initiatives for faculty development, professional training, and skill upgradation have also commenced. To improve academic standards and medical education, new departments have been introduced, skill development courses launched, service rules amended, and faculty training at AIIMS facilitated.
Significant progress is also being made in hospital services and infrastructure development.

Ongoing initiatives include strengthening emergency services, expanding Intensive Care Units (ICUs), operationalizing operation theatres, inducting modern medical equipment under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and improving supply chain management systems.
To enhance patient satisfaction and digital healthcare delivery, the state is already using the ‘Mera Hospital’ app. Additionally, coordination is underway to adopt AIIMS’ ‘Santusht’ app to systematically collect patient feedback and further improve service quality.
The Health and Family Welfare Department reiterated its commitment to working closely with AIIMS, New Delhi, to ensure sustained improvement in medical education, healthcare delivery, and patient services across Tripura.
The meeting was attended by Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Health Director Debashree Debbarma, Director of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Anjan Das, Director of Medical Education Dr. H.P. Sharma, Joint Director Rajesh Anil Acharya, Medical Superintendent of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital Dr. Bidhan Goswami, and Principal of Agartala Government Medical College Dr. Tapan Majumdar.
