Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren of hosting representatives of the Indian Union of Muslim League (IUML) and 'showing disrespect' towards BJP leaders including Amit Shah.
A delegation of IUML met Hemant Soren at his residence on Thursday, which included party MPs ET Mohammed Basheer and Haris Biran as well as MLA Mohammed Basheer.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office said that it was a 'courtesy meeting'.
Assam CM Sarma, who is the BJP's co-in-charge for the Jharkhand assembly elections to be held later this year, took a dig at CM Soren, saying, "He has no hesitation in warmly welcoming the delegation of the Muslim League founded by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, but he has objections to the visit of BJP leaders to his state."
The Jharkhand government had earlier this month urged the Election Commission to ask Union Home Minister Amit Shah to issue an advisory to BJP leaders Sarma and Shivraj Singh Chouhan to refrain from "inciting communal tension" in the state for "narrow political gains" by misusing the official machinery.
Himanta Sarma raised the question, "A delegation of IUML started by Jinnah met the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. I want to know why Jinnah's party came to Jharkhand? The Chief Minister warmly welcomes the Muslim League delegation from Kerala, but ignores the BJP leaders and instead writes a letter to the Election Commission to stop them from coming. You give tea and coffee to the leaders of Jinnah's party along with their families, why?"
CM Sarma also questioned what were the contents of the memorandum submitted by the IUML delegation to the Jharkhand Chief Minister. He asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party is going to form the government in the state after the assembly elections.
Speaking on the issue of 'One Nation-One Election', Sarma said that the entire opposition in the country has an agenda of how to oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Now the days of JMM are numbered in Jharkhand.
Taking a dig at the BJP's "Parivartan Yatras" scheduled to be held across Jharkhand from September 20, Hemant Soren on Thursday said leaders from other states would be seen "hovering like vultures and spreading communal tension".
