A case of mob lynching has come to light in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Where, a Hindu scrap dealer was beaten to death by a mob.

On July 9, the attackers first beat businessman Lal Chand Sohag (39) with bricks and stones and then brutally crushed his head and body near Mitford Hospital.

The mob even took off the businessman's clothes and some of the attackers were seen jumping and dancing on his body. According to media reports, the reason for the violence is being said to be extortion and business dispute. However, the real motive behind the incident is not yet known.

Massive protests have started across the country after the incident. Lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed a writ petition in the High Court on Sunday demanding the formation of a high level committee to investigate the murder.

19 accused have been named in the case, and 15-20 unidentified ones are also involved. The police have arrested five people so far. The case will be heard on Monday.

Lal Chand's sister Manjuara Begum (42) lodged a murder complaint at the police station on Thursday.

Following the incident, protests were held in several universities and some districts last night demanding stringent punishment for the murder culprits.

At the rallies, students accused the BNP of failing to control its leaders and workers.

"After Hasina's ouster from power, BNP leaders have been fighting among themselves for control, leading to killings. The BNP feels expulsion is enough, but we demand that the culprits be prosecuted," said Saikat Arif, president of the student federation.

A prominent Hindu leader was murdered by unidentified persons in Bangladesh on April 19, 2025. According to media reports, Bhabesh Chandra Roy (58) was kidnapped from his home and beaten to death.
