Historic Budget Strengthens Growth Roadmap: Tripura CM

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday hailed the Union Budget for the financial year 2026–27 as “historic,” asserting that it encapsulates the aspirations of India’s 1.4 billion citizens while reinforcing a clear and credible roadmap toward a developed nation.
Speaking at a press conference at the state BJP headquarters in Agartala, Dr. Saha said the budget demonstrates a decisive policy thrust towards agriculture and healthcare—two sectors critical to inclusive and sustainable growth. He welcomed the proposal to establish a medical hub, observing that it would play a pivotal role in creating a skilled healthcare workforce and strengthening India’s medical ecosystem.

The Chief Minister drew attention to significant patient-centric measures announced in the budget, including the exemption of customs duty on 17 cancer drugs and seven medicines for rare diseases. He described the move as a major relief for patients and their families.

The proposal to establish a second National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in North India, he added, marks a substantial step towards expanding mental healthcare infrastructure across the country.
Highlighting the federal dimension of the budget, Dr. Saha noted that 41 per cent of the nation’s total revenue has been allocated to states, ensuring Tripura’s due share in central devolution. He also underscored the budget’s special focus on the Northeast, particularly in unlocking tourism potential through the preservation and modernization of temples and monasteries as pilgrimage and cultural destinations.
“These initiatives will not only enhance Tripura’s tourism profile but also act as a catalyst for broader socio-economic development,” he said.
On the economic front, Dr. Saha said the budget accords strong priority to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and traditional handicrafts, sectors that form the backbone of grassroots entrepreneurship. He remarked that the policy framework would empower entrepreneurs to scale up from local markets to global platforms.
Describing the budget as genuinely transformative, the Chief Minister said it reflects a model of trust-based governance anchored in a human-centric economic philosophy. He added that the careful balancing of fiscal consolidation, inflation management and high capital expenditure underscores the Centre’s commitment to sustaining long-term economic momentum
