Historic Day as Tripura Launches its First Golf Event

In a landmark sporting moment for Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the Tripura Golf Tournament 2025 under the Bharat Golf Mahotsav at the Tusker BSF Golf Course, calling the occasion a “dream come true” for the state.
The event marks the first-ever golf tournament hosted in Tripura, adding a new dimension to the region’s sports potential.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of the event, noting that even within the Northeast, golf tournaments of this scale are extremely rare.
“This is a dream come true for us. We've never had a golf event in Tripura before. Hardly any other place in the Northeast has hosted a golf event like this… that too at the BSF Frontier Command IG Headquarters,” Saha said.
He praised the collective efforts behind the initiative, acknowledging the participation of golfers from outside the state and the role of the Tripura Golf Federation in making the event a reality.
“Many golfers came here from outside, and Tripura also has a Golf Federation, so they all come together and work really well,” he added.
However, the Chief Minister also pointed out that a recent strike had disrupted travel plans for several participants.
“Because of the strike and the disruption it caused, many golfers from outside couldn't come. But still, so many people came, so this is very important for us,” he said.
Despite the hurdles, Saha expressed confidence that golf would continue to grow in Tripura, hinting at government support to strengthen the sport’s ecosystem.

The 'Bharat Golf Mahotsav', organized by the Golf Federation of India, aims to sensitize the youth against addiction and obesity, and to maintain a healthy environment.
This program, which began in September 2021 on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, will continue until January 12, 2026.
These include national-level golf tournaments, tree plantations, and youth empowerment programs aimed at popularizing the game of golf in India, engaging the new generation with the sport, and spreading the message of social responsibility.
The Golf Association of Tripura was responsible for successfully organizing the first such tournament in the North Eastern region and
“This will grow further in the coming days. Whatever is needed to strengthen it further, our government will also make efforts,” he assured.
The Tripura Golf Tournament 2025 is being viewed as a bold step toward diversifying the state’s sporting activities and positioning Tripura as a potential hub for niche sports in the Northeast.
The Golf Association of Tripura and BSF were responsible for the successfully organizing the tournament, the first of its kind in the North Eastern region.
Fifty golfers came to the state to participate in this tournament. However, due to ongoing flight issues, 25 national golfers could not attend this tournament.
