If You Burn Bengal, We Will Shake Your Chair: Mamata Banerjee Hits PM Modi

Angered by the continuous protests over the rape and murder of a female doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital and the 12-hour Bengal bandh called by the BJP on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued a stern warning.

Addressing a rally here on the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad's foundation day, Mamata, invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name, alleged that some people were trying to instigate violence by using her party in the RG Kar case.

Taking on the BJP for the ongoing protests in the state by making reference to the ongoing violence and disturbance in Bangladesh, Mamata clearly said, 'Remember, if you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi will also burn. We will shake your (PM's) chair.'

Mamata said that some people think that this (Bengal) is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh. They talk like us and our culture is also the same. But remember that Bangladesh is a different country and India is a different country.

The Chief Minister also gave a message to the people of other states living in the state and said that they should treat Bengal as their own. If you beat people in association with BJP, then remember that someone can beat you too. I do not want this.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while retaliating to Mamata's statement about fire, said, "Don't threaten us Didi." Sarma wrote on Instagram - 'Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us red eyes. Don't even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language.'

At the same time, Bengal BJP President and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar has written a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah demanding action on Mamata's statement. In this, he said that such a statement cannot be given by a person holding a constitutional post. This is the voice of anti-nationals. Her statement is an attempt to threaten people, incite violence and spread hatred among people.

Majumdar said that Mamata should resign immediately. He requested Shah that I am waiting for immediate and decisive action from your side to protect the interests of the citizens of Bengal and maintain the constitutional values of the nation
