Fresh controversy has erupted over alleged illegal occupation and unauthorised construction on land earmarked for Kailashahar Airport, drawing attention from the Airports Authority of India.
Raising the issue, Congress legislator Birajit Sinha has formally petitioned the airport authorities, urging immediate intervention to address what he described as a serious breach of regulations. The complaint was submitted to the Director of Agartala Airport.
In his representation, Sinha alleged that several portions of airport land have been unlawfully encroached upon, with construction activities—including road development—being carried out without any official sanction. He termed these developments as clear violations of legal and administrative norms.
The complaint further points to the alleged involvement of government public prosecutor Advocate Sanjib Debroy, who is said to be expediting land-filling and construction work at the site without obtaining the requisite approvals from competent authorities.
The issue has reportedly heightened concern among local residents, with apprehensions growing over the potential ramifications if the matter remains unresolved. The situation, the letter warns, could escalate into a more complex dispute without timely intervention.
Although the matter has been reported to the local police, Sinha emphasised that the land in question falls under the jurisdiction of the Airports Authority of India, making it imperative for the agency to take decisive action.
He also noted that various activities are being conducted on the disputed land, further intensifying the gravity of the situation.
Calling for swift remedial measures, the MLA urged the Airports Authority of India to immediately halt all unauthorised work, remove encroachments, and reassert control over the airport premises.
