India Crush New Zealand by 96 Runs to Win T20 World Cup

India clinched the T20 World Cup title with a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

After losing the toss, India produced a spectacular batting display, posting a formidable total of 255 for 5. In response, New Zealand were bowled out for 159, handing India one of the most emphatic victories in a World Cup final.

The triumph also witnessed several historic milestones. India registered the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final, while the 96-run margin marked the largest victory in the tournament’s final history. For New Zealand, it was their heaviest defeat in a T20 World Cup final.

India’s explosive start saw the team reach 100 runs in just 7.2 overs, the fastest century by any side in a T20 World Cup knockout match. The side also equalled the highest powerplay score in World Cup history, matching the 92/1 record set by the West Indies cricket team in the 2024 edition.

Star batter Sanju Samson etched his name into the record books as well, becoming the highest run-scorer in a T20 World Cup final, surpassing the previous record of 85 set by Marlon Samuels.
