India Enter T20 WC Semis, Face England Next

India stormed into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup with a five-wicket victory over the West Indies in their final Super 8 clash. The Men in Blue will now face England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5.

Batting first at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the West Indies posted a competitive 195 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. Roston Chase anchored the innings with 40 runs, while Jason Holder remained unbeaten on 37. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the Indian bowlers, claiming two crucial wickets.

In pursuit of 196, India endured an early setback as Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan departed for 10 runs apiece. Tilak Varma injected momentum with a brisk 27 off 15 deliveries, and skipper Suryakumar Yadav contributed 18 from 16 balls.

However, it was Sanju Samson who emerged as the architect of India’s triumph. Displaying remarkable composure, he crafted an unbeaten 97 and stitched together vital partnerships — 58 runs with Suryakumar Yadav off just 35 balls, 42 with Tilak Varma, 38 with Hardik Pandya, and an unbroken 20 with Shivam Dube — steering India home in emphatic fashion. Samson sealed the victory in style, dispatching a boundary off the second delivery of Romario Shepherd’s over.
