The Indian cricket team will take on Oman in their final group match of the Asia Cup today at the Abu Dhabi Stadium. The contest begins at 8:00 PM, with the toss scheduled for 7:30 PM.
India has already sealed a spot in the Super Four with back-to-back wins against the UAE and Pakistan. A victory tonight would not only help them finish the group stage as the No. 1 team but also bring them level with Sri Lanka for the most wins in Asia Cup history.
India’s Dominance So Far
India has spent just 20.2 overs batting across two games.
Against UAE, the target was chased down in just 4.3 overs.
Against Pakistan, India wrapped up the chase in 15.5 overs.
Only five batsmen — Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, and Shivam Dubey — have batted so far.
Senior players like Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, and Akshar Patel are yet to face a single delivery in the tournament.
Given this lack of match practice for most batsmen, India may opt to bat first if they win the toss, ensuring more players get time in the middle.
Bowling Balance Under Review
India has so far relied on one specialist pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, with Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dubey providing medium pace support. The spin department has been the main weapon with three spinners featuring in both matches.
However, with the Abu Dhabi pitch less spin-friendly than Dubai, India may go in with two pacers. Arshdeep Singh is a likely inclusion, while Bumrah could be rested. Harshit Rana is also in contention.
The Big Record on the Line
If India wins tonight:
India will register their 46th Asia Cup victory (out of 68 matches).
This will make them joint record holders with Sri Lanka, who also have 46 wins (in 68 matches).
Currently, India’s Asia Cup record stands at:
Played: 67
Won: 45
Lost: 19
Tied: 1
No Result: 2
Sri Lanka’s record:
Played: 68
Won: 46
Lost: 22
With Oman already eliminated after two losses, the focus is firmly on India — not just to continue their winning run, but also to write their name in Asia Cup history.
