India Gives Buddha, Not War: PM Modi in Austria

PM Modi, who arrived on a visit to Austria after Russia, addressed a program of the Indian community in Vienna on Wednesday. 

In this, he talked about issues like India-Austria relations, democracy, the recent Lok Sabha elections. The PM told the Indian community that this is my first visit. The enthusiasm I am seeing here is really amazing. After 41 years, an Indian Prime Minister has come here. 

In his address, the PM said bluntly that India is the country that gave Buddha to the world. During the PM's address, the entire auditorium echoed with 'Modi Modi ke naaras'.

PM Modi said that there would be many among you (Indian community in Austria) who would have had a Prime Minister from India before they were born. Now this wait is over. This wait has ended on a historic occasion. 

India and Austria are celebrating 75 years of their friendship. I thank Chancellor Neymar for this welcome.

Addressing the people, the PM said, your coming here shows how special the Indians living here are for Austria. Friends, geographically India and Austria are on different ends of the earth, yet there are many similarities between our two countries. Democracy, liberty, respect for the rule of law are the qualities of both the countries.

PM said that elections are a big medium to show the value of both the countries. In India, we have just celebrated the festival of democracy with pride. The world's biggest election has been completed in India. Today, people of the world are surprised to hear about the elections in India. The election which ended just a few weeks ago. In that, more than 650 million people have cast their votes. 

According to the population, this means 65 million. Imagine such a big election but the election results are clear in a few hours. This is the strength of our democracy. After 60 years, a government has got the opportunity to serve for the third consecutive time in India.

PM said that Sanskrit was taught in Vienna about 200 years ago. It got a further boost with the establishment of an independent chair for Indology in 1880. Today I got a chance to meet some eminent Indologists, it was clear from their discussions that they were very interested in India. Today more than 150 Austrian companies are working in different sectors of India. Austrian companies are working in many projects. It is expected that in the coming times, companies here will expand in India.

Talking about the achievements of the country, the PM said that today the whole world is discussing India. India always talks about peace and prosperity. Today India is the fifth largest economy in the world. We will reach the top three. In 2014, India's economy was at number 10. We will make India developed by 2047. Two new colleges are opened every day in India.
