India secured the place in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for the fourth time after edging past England by seven runs in a high-scoring semi-final clash on Thursday at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
Having won the toss, England opted to field first, allowing India to post a formidable total of 253 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. The Indian batting line-up delivered an aggressive performance, registering one of the highest totals in the tournament’s history.
In response, England mounted a spirited chase but ultimately fell short, finishing at 246 for 7 in their 20 overs. Despite a remarkable innings from Jacob Bethell, who smashed 105 runs off just 48 deliveries, England could not cross the finish line.
The victory sends India into the T20 World Cup final for the fourth time, having previously reached the summit clash in 2007, 2014, and 2024. The total of 253 also stands as India’s second-highest score in T20 World Cup history. The team’s highest remains 256, recorded earlier in this edition against Zimbabwe during the Super 8 stage.
Overall, the score ranks as the fourth-highest total ever posted in the tournament. The record for the highest total in a T20 World Cup still belongs to Sri Lanka national cricket team, which scored 260 against Kenya national cricket team during the inaugural 2007 edition.
