"India is not responsible for Bangladesh floods.
opening of Dumboor dam on River Gomati has not led flood situation in Bangladesh".
The Ministry of External Affairs of India issued this statement.
The river Gomati flowing between India and Bangladesh has received the heaviest rainfall of the year for the past few days.
Dumboor Dam is located quite far from the border of Bangladesh. Located more than 120 km upstream. It is a low height (about 30 m) dam.
It's generates electricity and sends it to a grid and from there Bangladesh also receives 40 MW of electricity from Tripura.
The statement further informed that heavy rainfall has continued since August 21 in the entire Tripura and neighboring districts of Bangladesh.
An increasing trend has been observed in the data provided in Bangladesh till 21 August last 3 pm. Then there were communication problems due to power outages due to flooding.
The statement also said that flooding in common rivers between India and Bangladesh is a joint problem.
Which causes suffering to the people on both sides and requires mutual cooperation to resolve it
